I have to renew some guttering and when reading the manufacturers instruction it recommends a joint within 300mm of an end stop. Why is this necessary?

To leave room for a gutter support bracket.
Quote
'The length of gutter to a stopend from a fitting must not exceed 300mm. Where this is exceeded a union must be fitted and secured as previously described with a short piece of gutter to the stopend.'
But why have a joint at all, if no fitting is required at this point?

if no fitting within 300mm of stopend ignore
Which make of guttering are you using or manual are you reading from ?.
Donno really but how about expansion? Plastic stuff moves quite a lot and the joints are designed to take it up. Does the stop end float or is it fixed to the wall?
