exactly. Tehnically its a transformer, turning small movement in the metal with high force into larger volume air movement with less force.

A standard 4" concrete blocks sitting on noggings do a few things:

- they reduce framework movement at audible frequencies

- they lower the framework resonant frequency

- they lower framework q

a blob of foam will couple PB to the wall behind. The idea is just to use a little bit, so you get a flexible coupling, which will then act as damping, reducing PB movement. I'm not sure its a great strategy tbh, but if you want to avoid a reskim its one of the few options.
