I have another problem/query if you can help.
We have had a side extension which makes an external wall now a internal wall. The outside wall had pebbledash on it and is now in a 'extra bedroom'. I have had a look and it seems as though the builde is going to either a)plaster straight over the pebbledash or b) put u plaster boards and then plaster that.
Is this right /OK?
I thought the pebbledash would have to be removed.

Could be a real bastard trying to drill a hole in the wall afterwards.
Well, it doesn't _have_ to, but I would suggest doing so. It would probably come away with an SDS drill and chisel bit. Then have it properly plastered with a scratch coat and finish coat.
Either sounds fine.
No point in making work. As long as it is well fixed it would be fine to give it a coat of bonding plaster to level it, and then skim. If it is less well fixed, then just dry line and skim it.
Our rear kitchen extension is against an old external wall originally finished in 1930's "splatterdash" - a wet lime mortar/pebbles version of pebbledash. This had a base coat of render, very rough, with the mortar and pebble dash coat over. I scraped/chiselled off the splatterdash, and left the base render coat. The plasterer (then near retirement, very traditional and careful in his methods) PVA'd, added a browning coat, and finish coated the next day. He warned me not to try fixing anything with cut nails, as this would disturb the original render, but most other fixing methods would be OK. Has now been in place for 20+ years, all OK, no cracks, no problems. I have drilled and plugged in several places OK.
