Ping TNP: Andrew Neil and Gridwatch

Andrew Neil quoting wind contribution data from Gridwatch on Twitter.

Led to him quoting present cost of coal: 'Looks like we're paying £1,000/MWh for coal'.

Others asking if he's sure.

Says he's checking with National Grid.

He is correct, although that information is from BMreportst, not Gridwatch.

I hope Elexon doesn't 'hide' that data in the future from public scrutiny: They are changing access to their new site and the old one is discontinued in a couple of weeks.

I *think* what happened at half past three yesterday afternoon was that the storm subsided in a hurry, and the sun went down, leading to a massive drop in renewables beyond what had been anticipated.

Coal and gas were being ramped up to cover the evening peak, but seemed to be 'too little, too late'.

Pumped storage and hydro too were both being ramped up fast at that time.

There was no shortage of capacity: Just a mismatch between what was online at the time, and demand.
