Patio heater - where to get the propane?

Hi all,

I'm new to the wonderful world of cylinder gas, and patio heaters in particular. Where's the best (ie. best value) place to get the propane from?

I have a TPA Low Pressure propane regulator if that helps, and my only ideas so far are to ring calor, or trawl the DIY superstores......

A quick google hasn't really helped much.

thanks in advance

Yellow Pages or the online version thereof. Look for suppliers who stock it specifically. It is quite popular for mobile home heating and there are places specialising in supplying that market with large cylinders. There are Calor dealers and then those of 2-3 other big suppliers which are usually a bit cheaper.

Needless to say, the larger cylinders are cheaper per kg.

Rob formulated the question :

You will find it the same of almost the same price everywhere, though some places will deliver it FOC. Try you local hardware dealer.

Be warned, if you don't have a cylinder already to swap, they'll skin you something rotten for your first cylinder. I frequently find them on the beach.

That hasn't been my experience.

Have you ever thought of looking in your local yellow pages under gas suppliers or whatever

However, AFAICS, they are a waste of money and I've already outlined my environmental concerns about them

We use a variety of propane and butane bottles at work and get them from our local welding materials supplier.

I did that, but the damn thing only burnt for about 3 minutes, then it went cold again.

But if you had been wearing it at the time you would have been warm for the rest of your life.

I can only comment on Calor but when we bought a caravan some years ago and kitted it out with gas cylinders, we were charged a whopping deposit for the first cylinders. What's more, the value of your deposit depreciated over

5yrs until you couldn't get any of it back.

Have they changed their policy?

No, Calor still have the same policy - your hire charge depreciates over a few years after you take the cylinders.
