Part P - time limit?

Why contact building control at all. Just get an electrician to inspect after. Take photos of the wiring in the wet rooms before any are plastered over, just in case. Best cover cables that are to be plastered over in wet rooms with metal covers.

Most councils have a dedicated form for Part P. It may be titled something like: "Building Work Only for the Provision of Electrical Work". Most councils charge around £90 or so for the inspection if the job is under £1,000. The more expensive the job the more they charge. Once you apply anyone can wire any part of the house and work on Cunsumer Units, etc. The inspector will get in touch and may want to see various parts of the installation before plaster is applied. Then they do a final test and a test certificate will be issued.

You could get an approved Part P electrician to do the check, and he will should do what the Building Control do, inspect wiring before plastering in wet rooms. He should be the one switching on the power not you. But most will only do a final test and not inspect, with many asking simple questions of what you did with wiring in wet rooms, earth bonding, etc. Many will do it cheaper than the Building Control Department.

If you are doing a full re-wire go to Building Control. The Building Control will advise you of time limits, which should be very long.
