distinguish from plugs and sockets in general. But I would use the prefix "mains" for this purpose.

I suppose it makes some sort of sense if you think of the plug as the metal bits which go into the socket (aka pins). The the plastic bit that holds the pins and covers the wires is a plug top.

no no no. One is a plug. The other bit is a socket. Only meaningful prefix is 'mains'.

Arguably, even that's ambiguous.

Mains could refer to those giant sized round plugs that are used in commercial premises for large loads.

Perhaps "household" is better

Well..... when I was doing some installation at home (years ago; before part P) -if I asked for plug tops , I got them at trade price and if I asked for plugs I had to pay retail price.
