There is no ribbon in 2007. You click on the hide arrow on the ribbon of course.

it takes longer than that to run the BIOS checks on this motherboard

Actual linux is about 10 secs - rest is bios and grub boot loader

I dont. A few 'places' and a few temporary notes-to-self is all there is here.

That's why I have a menu side bar.

It would probably benefit from

I am SO glad I run a winowing system that allows me to do things the way I want and not the way someone else decided I should.

Does seem to be one advantage of UEFI

That would be why so many linux gui managers try to look as close as possible to windows then.

So you say.

I would disagree.

That's to try and attract douchebags like you. I can't imagine why they bother.

And if dennis knew anything about anything, he would know that Linux UI's are generally alterable. Unlike Winblows and Macinsertmoneyhere.

Exactly. Mint Mate comes out of the box looking just like XP. but that's only the default way it installs.

You can have a dozen virtual screens - up to for edge panels that may of may not hide themselves. You can select how you launch programs from half a dozen different styles, and you can select what you want on the desktop or have nothing at all if you want

So you can't do anything you want as you claimed then, not unless you are into programming X server apps. You just choose one of the built in ones the same as the rest of us.

What?

The point is there are ten times more built in ones, and of course all of those have several options.

You may equate having a valet and thirty suits of clothes as the same as having to dress yourself in one pair of jeans and a bikini, becaseuse 'you cant sew, either' but I don't.

What's wrong with it then?. If there are things I need to be doing a lot of work on then I simply drag the folder to the desktop and work on it there.

If I need a programme I use a lot then I have a few short cut buttons a matter of a few seconds and I'm there..

Well thats not really an operating system fault as such, more people don't know how to use it effectively..

Got one of they, it came with the olde Turnpike news and mail prog;)..

But still if I click on most any file the prog that runs that opens up straightway and well .. thats that!..

I will reserve judgement until I have tried it. I find Win8 irritating to use even on a touch capable screen and torture on a big box & LCD.

I chose to get a last buy Win7 to avoid the PITA that is Win8 (I could have had a free upgrade but value my sanity too much)

PS Yes, it's really me! :-)

If you could have stuck it out for a couple of months you would have got Win10 free without buying win7. You can still get win10 for free from 7 now you have bought it. I had the win10 reservation pop appear today asking me to register for the free update.

More./

"The streets of Victorian London were surprisingly free of dog poo. The old ?muck = brass? equation found its most revolting solution in the leather trade. The process of tanning required copious amounts of excrement, colloquially known as ?pure?, which leatherworkers would rub into the hides. Pure collectors would scour the streets for canine waste, then cart it off to the centre of the leather trade in Bermondsey, where the eager tanners would offer cash for the honking payload. Remember this next time you?re tucking in to a home-made artisan brownie on one of Bermondsey Street?s chichi cafes."

Hence 'Pure leather ;-)

It may be more to do with avoiding any hint of an association with the DOS based versions (win95, 98, 98SE and ME) which were generically referred to as win9X.

Wrote my final thesis on that. Then printed it on a daisywheel.

It was still the wrong subject though, should have been computers not Biology.
