Its seems to have been replaced by some ghastly real time interactive ITV quiz show...I mean men and motors wasn't GREAT TV, but the occasional motorsport, and old runs of Magnum, were at least an alternative to CeeBeebies in the afternoon..

Men and Motors on Freeview. Men and Motors will continue to broadcast a strong schedule on Sky, Telewest and NTL. ITV has limited capacity on the Freeview platform and we have to take decisions based upon the capacity available. In this instance we believe ITV Play represents the best commercial use of this capacity on DTT. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused to our viewers. There are no plans for a return in the near future.

ITV play is just another junk program that will get posted to the bottom of the playlist.
I can cope with a few adverts and men and motors, but its not worth signing up to sky for...
Hugh Grant commented the other day that he feared that British TV was turning into "high entertainment, low quality" broadcasting. He would appear to be right.
It's only a matter of time before we need to pay to watch anything.
You don't need to. M+M on D-Sat (aka Sky) is unencrypted and free.
Any Sky box, or proper D-Sat receiver, will get it without any Sky viewing card.
ITV quiz show and others of that ilk are the greatest con ever perpetrated on the British viewing public. How do the authorities allow these rip offs to operate?

Given the number of customers Sky have lost to FreeView it appears to be exactly the reverse. The British seem to have an aversion for paying direct for TV hence the phone in quiz shows etc to help fund the other stuff. There's simply not enough advertising revenue.
I've often wondered why ITV doesn't go after local advertising as in the states - you know the sort of thing, some local garage owner making his own commercial on his car lot. Tatty though they often are, they might be watched for the cringe factor rather than the same ad being on every break on the minority channels which I seriously reckon puts people off that product.
M&M used to show things like The Sweeny and Professionals at peak time. They are so old few would remember any of the story lines so not really repeats like Morse where I'm sometimes near word perfect on the script.;-)
I watch a couple of hours or so in the evening - never have a TV on in the day - and I want a decent drama. Unfortunately the most expensive thing to make.
But then the repeats of things like Fred Dibnah, property progs etc are always worth a look.
It's rare not to find something worth watching on FreeView when those endless big brother type rubbish is on the mainstream channels. But then those progs appeal to the young so get good advertising income.
Why, aesthetic reasons, you live in a listed building, or because you're afraid of being labelled a "Sky Watching Chav" ?
If the first two, then remember the dish does not necessarily need to be mounted on your house, or any other building, to work. You can also get disguised garden lamps that can replace a conventional dish. If the third reason, then anybody from any other country other than the UK would say you were bonkers for thinking that.
No. On Freeview the bandwidth is used during the day for the CITV channel (75), and evenings for ITV-4 (30)

No - I'm in London and have only seen FreeView there.

Cinema advertising (cue perl & dean music) for local businesses consisting of static slides and a bland voice over man shouting "for the perfect night out, come to harrish's new tandori in bridge street" - this tried and tested format transfers to TV quite nicely....
