OT What are these lines for?

"Sorry Mr PC, I looked and there is nothing from that date/time."

They can hardly expect "forensic" investigation by owners/users of such devices - if such were needed they'd probably take it as a possible item of evidence and do their own looking.

Loading thread data ...

With the RoadHawk, that is an SD card and, if you fit the smallest it will accept, 512Mb, it will overwrite the data every 45 minutes of driving, apart from any recorded as the result of the accelerometer tripping or the driver pushing the record button, which are stored in separate directories.

Having been in both camps (i.e. approaching from the slip road at too slow a speed through no fault of my own, and being boxed in the inside lane when someone is trying to join) neither scenario annoys me. I'm just amazed that the slip road system works at all. Certainly no place for road rage

I prefer the American: "Acceleration lane".

Because that info is invisable to you, it is still there until overwritten by something else. There are utilities availble to get delete files back some better than others.

Probaley, be intersting how things would progress if the procecution of defnece relied on the file to prove their point. The there the bit about the right to remain silent and mentioning evidence that you later rely on in court.

Interesting app & I've installed it. Shame it can't work alongside a satnav app though.

It is hazardous because it is badly designed. There is ample space there for the minor road to curve right as it reaches the major road. That would remove the visual continuity of the two roads and make it much more difficult for traffic from the minor road to try to enter the major without slowing.

I would have written to the Chief Constable and seen what he had to say about it.

Is that the next clause after the 'Magic Hazard Warning Indicators' one, which allows you to park absolutely anywhere as long as the indicators are on?

Especially if you have parked leaving only the offside indicator visible, so it looks like you are trying to pull out.

The apprentice was driving a trackered van - dunno what records but you can sit in the office and see where he is and how fast he is driving.

My sat nav stores the maximum and average speed readings of my journeys and gives the GPS start and finish positions. I would not like plod to see that info.

I have the "Electrician On Call" laminated note that allows me to park almost anywhere :-)

I knew something was wrong when I heard her accent. Fancy a guess as to the accent?

Roadhawk records in 1 minute intervals, but also 10 seconds either side of a collision (or a pothole) in a separate file. As he was going around a corner in a van at the time, I suspect the apprentice would not have a problem showing that file to anyone.

Sarf. Essex or Kent, or somewhere in Lahnden (they all sound the same to me).

Absolutely

Indeed

They don't need the right, they just need the arrogance or ignorance to bully you into giving it up, ultimately under threat of arrest. Nothing will happen to them if they arrest you (falsely or otherwise) for obstruction or whatever, they'll either be backed up by their bosses or receive further training to ensure that such a terrible thing can never happen again . . .

Anyway, the point was that having one needs to be a balanced decision as using one could backfire on you (one) if you make a silly mistake on camera in the future.

Poking through the swept area of the windscreen is prob best and a swivel mount would be useful so it will tend to be a bit obvious.

:-)

As an aside, I loved the film 'Signs':

in which tinfoil hats are made to protect the family from the probing thoughts of aliens hiding in their field. When watching it with a significant other I made us some hats in a similar design to share the experience. Mine's still on the shelf :-)

If I lived in Russia I'd probably have one too.

I suppose the benefits depend on the kind of driving that you do, I appear to be fortunate in that, to date, I haven't come across the situations of conflict where a camera would provide a useful record.

Maybe time will tell.
