What's happening to our money?

Are we to expect a reduction in the pension age for women post-Brexit, I wonder? Thought not.

And little sympathy for the 'poor' recipient of what's likely to net over 250,000 euros inheritance from granny. What did they do to earn that?

Granny should be entitled to do with her money as she sees fit. Not have it doled out to idle socialists.

Some bastard is taking a bit of it in FIT.

The stupid part of all of this mess is that as we gradually automate things there is enough wealth around to give everybody a comfortable living standard and even allow for some people to be richer. The fact is there is too much greed and inefficiency gobbling up value for no real gain over a living wage. Indeed if we could retain the knowledge of those with experience when new staff are appointed huge savings of the learning curve can be made world wide. and of course if people would, as someone once said, remember their humanity and forget the rest, with no more wars over petty differences, we could concentrate on making things even more efficiently and thus costing less. Abandon the work ethic and instead bring out the helping each other traits in our species.

Utopia? Well maybe but really it does seem we are still just a bunch of bad tempered apes at heart. Brian

Can't you think of any other use? Invest in primary and secondary industry? Health, education, housing?

Inheritance is one of the most significant causes of inequality, and it's set to get far worse in the UK over the next 30 years.

If you're happy with that, and the fact that many younger people are going to become rich without lifting a finger . . .

That should be left up to the person who's earnt the money rather than the person who has no uidea how to earn money and only knows how to spend money on themselves.

How have you worked that out ?

Rich in that they might get their parents place split between them if there's the standard 2 children. What do you prefer peolpe from other countries given free hosuing ?

Granny or in my case Granpa contributed at the going tax rate to anything the Govt. decided was necessary.

Maybe. I didn't invite successive administrations to allow property/house values to rise beyond the land/construction costs. If I chose to manage my money carefully rather than spend it on luxury activities, I see no reason why others, not having the same motivation, should benefit freely.

I think it is a major encourager for industrious labour. The current punitive 40% death duty on assets over allowances balances the desire to help ones children against the grievance of exchequer snatch/grab.

Convincing the elderly to spend down to the allowance may not be a good idea if the money goes in imported luxury goods or foreign holidays.

Of course inequality is a very necessary and useful thing.

Without it society would collapse.

Which is the point of socialism.

Yup. Lets just go back to the original way of only looking after ourselves. And, of course our own offspring.

Anyone incapable of looking after themselves (for whatever reason) should be left to die, and their bodies left to rot by the wayside. Unless their family want to bear the entire burden of doing so. Or hope some charity can help.

Oh - seems to be the way this country is heading anyway.

No idea where that comes from.

Yes it is. Who do you think paid for lady Dis funeral ?

Nature.

Nature rarly does that, most animals don;t know their off spring and certainly don't look after them in old age. I know my cats mother and her step sister my cats isn't going to look after her mum or dad. Very few animals have any contact with grandparents, the few animals that sometimes do live in communities anyway. Animals don't wear clothes either.

Did I say they did? Are you denying most 'advanced' animals look after their offspring? Until old enough to fend for themselves?

No need for them to do so. The doting owners will be happy to. Far more important to look after an old pet than help with other kid's education.

You're wrong. Someone mentioned the cat's pyjamas only recently.

Well, there'll always be those ready to take up an initiative and those without the gumption. It was open to anyone.

Hmmm. Sounds similar to the arguments used by illegal immigrants and their stinking supporters.

If this is property wealth, what did she personally do to increase the value ?. One day I expect mortgage providers to have a clause that entitles them to a share of any increase in the properties value that exceeds inflation. Either that or we are going to see CGT extended to all property sales.
