OT: sheet-fed scanners?

Have you looked at HP all-in-one printer/scanners?

The HP Photosmart Premium Fax e-All-in-One Printer (model number CQ521B) can be picked up for £99 from Amazon -

device has duplex (two sided) printing AND scanning capability (many duplex devices can't do duplex scanning, only printing). It has an auto-sheet feeder for scanning a pile of stuff and comes with OCR software.

If you use the print side of it, the cartridges are pretty cheap so running costs are low, as they only contain ink, not a whole new print head unlike some.

It supports wireless and wired ethernet, so you can use it to scan to and print from multiple devices. You can even print from ipads/iphones/nokia phones/android phones.

In which case I can recommend the HP CQ521B (also known as the C410a for some reason)...

My ancient flat bed Epsom would be quicker than that.

An hour of my time is worth more than that...

Cost of a digital camera and stand is probably more than a £99 multifunction printer, and the multifunction printer will take over 100 pages and duplex scan them in well under an hour while I do something more productive with my time...

The internet connectivity will work anyway of course, regardless of the OS of local computers.

Yes, that's the one I have just bought. £78 with a 30% discount offer from Viking, but available from several places at less than £100.

For occasional jobs I now use a (the one at work) photocopier - just takes seconds and saves as pdf. I've used an expensive HP autofeed scanner but didn't find it reliable - feed mechanism kept jamming.
