OT: Prestige - Who is the manufacturer ?

Although the OEM will be one of the usual suspects. There are only a handful of makers of this sort of stuff these days regardless of the brand - Merloni group being perhaps the largest.

IME the specifications given on Comet's website are a work of fiction! My daughter ordered a CRT television a few years ago on-line from Comet and when it arrived it was 5 cm wider than advertised and was missing a number of quoted features. I've seen many other examples including a fridge freezer which I bought in January which, if I'd believed the spiel, would never have been considered due to its lack of features according to them.

Go to the store and check it out for yourself. Prestige is a well known brand for cook/kitchen ware but, as others have said, the fridge/freezer is going to be a badged item.

Indeed. But Merloni/Indesit is much smaller than the world's top three. I found these figures from a document dated 2006:

At a world level, the sector is concentrated around four main manufacturers: o Electrolux (Sweden): 13,1 billion ? of sales o Whirlpool (USA): 10,1 billion ? o BSH (Germany): 6,8 billion ? o Indesit (Italy) : 3,2 billion ?

But:

"Milan, Italy, Sept. 6 - Indesit Company will be the new name of Merloni Elettrodomestici. The ordinary shareholders' meeting, which took place today in Fabriano, approved the new name, which will be in use starting January 2005."

I had just got used to the Merloni name...

I just dug out the instructions -- it's made by: "National Pressure Cooker Company (England) Ltd. Wolverhampton England" and also refers to "National Presto" which appears to be US corporation. There's a brief history of the US company halfway down

it doesn't make any reference to the England outfit. Mum thinks she bought it in 1956, and chose it because her parents-in-law had the same model (dating back further but no idea when). I recall my grandfather, who had endless trouble with his teeth, striving to make various meats as tender as possible, with all sorts of extra weights balanced on the pressure weight to increase the operating pressure. It's a wounder he never blew the thing up. ebay is down at the moment, so I can't search for an image.

Perhaps Prestige started licencing from National Presto?
