It doesn't look like a sophisticated system. I think it is a Magnetti Marelli single point system. I thought it was a carb when I first saw it. I've only owned diesels and multi-point injection cars for years.
Christian.

It is a 1996 1.4 TU3. Magnetti Marelli single point injection. Do you think it would be covered?
Christian.
Sorry - brain fart. I've never come across a temp sensor which has gone short circuit - although it could happen.
The other thing I'd check is the fuel pressure - if low this seems to effect cold running more. If you disconnect the vacuum feed to the regulator and plug it this will set the pressure to the maximum the pump can deliver. If this improves the cold running it might give a guide - although it could of course simply mask the real problem.
How does single point injuection fueling work? I'm used to multipoint, with high pressure fuel lines with return to the tank. Does single point use a similar system, or is it closer to a low pressure carb system?
Christian.
I'd guess it's much the same as multi-point, but with only the one injector. Don't think it's used on current engines, as I can't see it passing emission regs.
Isn't single point injection what Rover called throttle body injection on the early K-series? In which case it is basically a carb minus float and jets, and with a single injector instead. You could probably squeeze by the emission regs with one, but it's really just a cheapo compromise to save costs on full multi-point.
Cheers Clive
IIRC, yes
Well, so is basic indirect injection - except that the injectors are closer to the inlet valves.
My feeling was that the mixture would vary too much between cylinders.
Yup.
Injects into the inlet manifold well upstream of the cylinders.
I'm used to multipoint, with
The latter I think.
I think it was more a halfway house to make the changeover to injection easier. Unbolt the carb, and bolt on the injection system. No need to design a new manifold.

I don't know about Ultimate petrol but the additives help enormously. My aging 306 diesel only just scraped through its Controle Technique (MOT) two years ago, even with lots of screaming and revving of the engine. This time I put in some additive and it passed easily.
