It would be good to know your example of a country which practices socialism, then. Or has truly practised it. Since you are so convinced it is such an evil.

No one has "truly" practiced in, to use your word, since it cannot be done by real humans. What we're referring to is what you actually get when it's practiced by those who call themselves socialists - Stalin, Chavez, and so on. The usual suspects, IOW.

You can equally well say the same of capitalism. Which equally doesn't work well in lots and lots of countries either - unless you are one of the chosen few. As with all such things the likely best for everyone is a mixture using better parts of both.

Golly.an almost sensible comment from one of the usual suspects.

Capitalism and socialism are two sides of the same coin: an insane struggle by Marxists to define two parts of a whole that cannot exist without each other as enemies of each other.

Naturally if they start fighting, both suffer.

But that was always the point: to stir up conflicts in partnerships in order to destroy an enemy from within. In order that a new and more ruthless tyrant could march in and take over.

IN every case it has arguably been worse than what preceded it.

Just because someone says their on your side in a war they invented, doesn't mean they are.

The Left has betrayed the People that lent it their power, and now its time to get it back.

Your true colours, then. Only certain people are entitled to 'power'. Who would they be - those with rich daddies? It's certainly not based on merit. Luckily you qualify by neither.

Nice if you could take some important decisions away from politics altogether.

Energy, education, defence, housing, food supply, ....?

Pol Pot was a true socialist.

And of course Kim Il Sung.

What you get with true socialism. Socialists would like to run the UK in such a fashion. ie poverty for all non-politicians. .

A well known gentleman agreed with you - although he saw both sides of things..

"The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of the blessings. The inherent blessing of socialism is the equal sharing of misery." - Winston Churchill

Well, you probably call yourself human. But that doesn't make it so.

So we can add socialism to the long list of things you don't understand.

Yet many of the things he was dead against - like the NHS - are now a cornerstone of Tory policy. As are so many things brought in by a socialist government. Which quite simply wouldn't exist today otherwise. I get the impression many here know little of history.

You sound like a friend of mine, who constantly defends socialism but the confounds it by saying 'but of course Labour aren't really proper socialists'.

When he then goes on to define what socialism is I say 'but that is what UKIP are promoting' and he goes very quiet.

The Natural Philosopher

I'm not surprised. When someone talks such s**te it's best to keep quiet.

That's right - the credit or otherwise for the NHS moves backwards and forwards depending who won the last election. As it's now on its last legs, I imagine they'll all be dissociating themselves from it soon.

Bob Henson

You think the Tories were in favour of the NHS - or any of the other social reforms introduced after WW2 that we all now take for granted?

Yes - it would be marvellous to get rid of the NHS and rely on private care. If you are very rich and very healthy.
