Sense is coming to the fore.
Don't count on it!
The wind-farm was cancelled for the lesser reason that locals would oppose it because it spoils the view of Lincoln Cathedral, not because wind-farms are essentially the wrong solution to a problem that might not even exist.
Even if the problem does exist, the snag with wind farms, well several snags, are thus.
Brian-Gaff explained :
Why would anyone involved, need to think it through, when there is profit to be made from subsidies?
That is the real reason, for sure. "Follow the Money".
Worse still, they tend *not* to generate power when you *do* need it - so you still a backup system which uses some more reliable technology.
Depends what the "planning changes" really mean. HMG is scrapping the subsidies for on shore wind. This just proves the point that the only things wind farms are harvesting are the subsidies.
the $64,000 question...
But not to the meja.
A huge wind farm hasn't been scrapped. The proposal to build one may well have been. But perhaps they don't understand the difference.
True. But it's a start (or not, in this case).
I did here about one interesting invention and that is the digital cog. Apparentyl it increased the effcincy of motors and turbines so a 3MW windmill would generate 6MW.
apparetly they plan to use it in buses and lorries too
Sounds like snake oil to me. If there is only 3 MW being collected from the wind/blades were does the other 3 MW come from? It can only be from improved effciency so that implies > 3 MW being wasted in the gearbox/alternator ATM which is a lot of energy to dissipate...
Where in that article does it mention 3MW and 6MW? It just says that it improves the efficiency of gearboxes.
Remember a Grand Design where they spent a fortune on a super efficient wind generator - all down to a fancy gearbox. Which didn't work, and the supplier went bust. Perhaps they have surfaced again?
basically if you arrange to use an inverter, and then have a multipole generator you don't need a gearbox.
Calling it a digital gearbox is of course marketing bollox.
Of course, it costs a lot more
