It's the dissolved CO2 that makes the water acidic shit-fer-brains. Pure water is considered neutral.

It should dissolve readily in hydrochloric acid (brick acid). Other descalers may work, but perhaps be slower.

Might sting a bit, I'd use something milder to wash with and use the acid on the mark later.
