Or just another 'warning from history'

By 2019 VW will make no more Diesels - only hybrids and electrics.

And if you believe that ....

One of my minor pastimes is to read early 20th century popular literature, not for any literary quality, but because it gives an insight into the prevailing popular attitudes and opinions of the times.

It is staggering how much of what people thought would happen, or not happen, was absolutely proved to be utterly wrong.

I for example after careful consideration, think it more likely that working teleportation will be possible in 50 years, than that civilisation will be running on 'renewable energy'.

Hybrids unfortunately may well be the way of the future. Done well the benefits to fuel economy in many situations are pretty massive. And actually for a change the technology in current F1 cars is actually relevant.

OTOH we may not have a civilisation at all.

The thing is as we all know, most people are in denial that capitalism has been rumbled by the great unwashed hence the problem with low growth and low interest rates. I do not consider existing conditions likely Written by Frank Muir many years ago for the Peter Sellers Party Political speech send up. Brian

Capitalism is the only system that works at all. Aquisitivness is the only thing that motivates people

If you're genuinely interested in this stuff then I found "The Victorian Frame of Mind" covers that ground well but it's turgid and quotes so many primary sources that it can get boring. I'm not sure why I read the thing! :-)

I'm well aware that VW *want* to sell people hybrids, but if people want to buy diesels instead, they'll soon change their tune ...

The EU^H^H^H^H^H^HGerman government will soon put a stop to that by massively increasing road tax on diesels.

They already have city ban on dirty Diesels - see my green disc.

I suspect Governments will try and persuade them otherwise.

Then I hope electric cars get a damn sight cheaper to run. They're only cheaper at the moment because you don't pay fuel duty.
