I would say that is a very narrow and inadequate definition. And I don't know if I could give you a comprehensive survey of the forms that racial prejudice and oppression take in the modern world, not without writing an essay. I'll make some observations though.

Modern racism is not about genetics and eugenics like Nazi racism was. That kind of intellectual racism was long ago discredited. In that sense racism just isn't about race in a biological sense, whatever that might be. It's about ethnicity, cultural identity, diversity, equality, opportunity and respect.

Most importantly real issues of race are about real problems of violence, employment, how you are dealt with by employers or customers or police or teachers -whoever. Those things aren't necessarilly anything to do with language but they all take place in an environment which makes it possible or even acceptable, and language does a lot to shape that environment.

If for example I want to needle you here on this group, I would do it with language and name calling, give you a nickname, picking on some distasteful characteristic and making it stick, where you come from, who your family are, all that, to undermine any respect you might have round here and make you a bit of a joke. it wouldn't be funny and it wouldn't be right. Even worse if it's just because you are foreign and you meet the same shit everywhere you go.

So sadly are many people to whom driving is not an art and a pleasure, but a chore.

My Indian friend is appalling. He has scrapes and dents all over his car.

I happened to live in S Africa at the time when there were as many africans who had grown up around cars, as there were those who have hardly ever seen one.

There used to be a 'delivery drivers race' in which they got all the J'oburg couriers on their motorbikes and mopeds, and let them rip round Kyalami for half a dozen laps. Mostly dire, but I wasn't surprised when Lewis Hamilton made the grade here. Thee is no DNA component to being a class driver. But there is a massive cultural one.

Car driving is all about interest and motivation.
