Indeed. The tendency of many wimmin to constantly demand brand new stuff means there's plenty of perfectly good second hand stuff appearing on the market for peanuts; you can't give second hand furniture away it seems. Find something of decent quality and get it reupholstered.

No, don't 'get it reupholstered'. Do it yourself. There are quite a few good, illustrated, books available on how to do it. Only a few simple handtools required.

Explains a great deal.

+1, or don't get it reupholstered. There's no shortage of used furniture in good condition about.

Chipboard Ikea, Argos etc stuff is cheap & looks ok, but not for long. If you keep replacing it once it looks crap you end up spending a fortune over a lifetime.

Antique furniture is.... different. They used very different methods, materials & styles. If you like it great, not everyone does.

And if you want comfortable long lasting seating, zigzag springs are not the way to go!

If you're in a town, in no rush & not too fussy, you could probably get everything off freecycle & similar.

Is this while you were still wearing it?

The mistake is to keep the money in the bank, if you delegate correctly, the correct wife will spend all her time counting it and you can exist in peace!
