OT: Android startup question

SWMBO uses a very old clamshell mobile phone which has been dropped on many hard floors, into water and so on. It still works, but I have to keep setting it up after it loses one or more settings. Her brother is insisting that she needs to move to a basic smartphone and so I've invested in an Android 4.2 "Cubot" for a small number of pounds on ebay. It takes her size sim and is temporarily running on a Tesco sim to test and for her to practice. She doesn't do computers at all and it's not going too well.

One basic problem is that on startup and on return from locked, it starts in "Messaging", and I haven't been able to discover how to get it to start on the Home screen. I've loaded Ghost Commander and poked around in manifests etc,, but have no clue about what I'm doing. I know it's easy to say to hit the back button, but not to her indoors, it isn't.

Anyone know how to unset all applications from starting?

Yes, I've been there and looked at and searched the forum for this model, GT95, but it just returns "not found" everywhere. I haven't yet tried an email to Selina or Ivy of support, though.

Hmmm, I was hoping not to have to dive into this. I might have to try there, I suppose.

I found a Youtube review of the phone, which shows it starting, being unlocked and then going straight to a screen with just the simple icons I want. This led me to the idea that there might be some simple setting somewhere that triggers, or not, the messaging screen. ( As an aside, I really don't understand the fixation with unboxing in Youtube reviews - does anyone really want to watch people unwrapping things?).

Thanks for the help.

May have different model number for same phone in different markets, quick search brings up Cubot Greece`s page for the GT 95.

Have a Xiaomi myself that was intended for Indian market, not officially released in Europe because of Samsung and Apple patents.

Worth asking there to see if its known under more common model name.

Its a very serious business, big makers known to consult leading youtube unboxers for advice on packing. Its a strange world ;-)
