OT: "All up: No reserves"

Looking at gridwatch and BM reports, I am reminded of the scene in 'Battle of Britain' in the RAF control room when someone asks 'what reserves have we got' and the reply is 'all up sir'

Demand is brushing past 50GW, there's f*ck all wind today, and there's even an OCGT set online making up the numbers as the buy price peaks out at over £150/MWh.

Coal gas and nuclear all pretty much flat out, as is pumped storage and hydro and woodburners.

And its not even proper winter yet.

and why no solar? Guess what - it's dark for about 16 hours a day ATM.

Don't panic; I've lit the wood burner.

Supply and demand should sort this, obviously they aren't charging enoug= h for electricity.

Anyway, who heats their home with electricity? Don't most people have g= as?

Long separated by cruel fate, the star-crossed lovers raced across the g= rassy field towards each other like two freight trains, one having left = York at 6:36 p.m. travelling at 55mph, the other from Peterborough at 4:=

19 p.m. at a speed of 35mph. The brakes decelerate each train at the ra= te of 1.0 m/s2. Is there a collision? What distance do the trains need = to allow between them to stop at this deceleration? What deceleration d= o the two trains need to have to stop in exactly a distance of 938m?

I think solar panels were invented by someone on the equator with no con= cept of day length.

It's windscreen-scraping weather already tonight, so the morning should be a fresh one ... but no, it's not proper winter yet.

I've started my diesel land rover. How do I connect the alternator output to the mains? Maybe harry can plug in his electric car and put the charger in reverse.

I'll get the generator out and siphon some petrol out of the car.

Do they burn as well as art students?

Could we modify the Thames barrier to generate electricity, I wonder?

When we had the three day week they rotad the power cuts so we all knew where we were and they were not long enough to actually allow too much heat loss at home and in the case of vulnerable people who needed power this was provided locally via small generators. Brian

Bit of a harsh environment though. Actually what about spent nuclear fuel that is hot for years? Could we not extract some power from th heat as they decay somewhere?

Low grade heat to power seems to be something we need to consider generally. Brian

There is a kit available for my car to provide mains standard electricity f rom the battery.

However I have a woodburner and a large stock of wood. Also a small petrol generator to cover freezers, TV, lights etc.

They might get a little bit more solar as the sun gets higher. It is only just over 45GW at the moment so they still have some margin.

They are still maintaining frequency at 50.05Hz. I will start worrying when it drops below 49.9 (perhaps around 6pm tonight).

Its pretty cold here today but sunny.

BTW did you know someone is passing off a look alike site -templar.co.uk +.com

try Google "gridwatch" colours used rather more psychodelic than yours.
