Oil fired boiler bearing ?

My oil fired camray 2 boiler is making a whining noise when it strikes up, sounds like a worn bearing, is there just the one bearing and is it easy to change?

Most of the current oil burners have a motor with TWO bearings, one at either end of the shaft. If yours has a Riello burner with a grey plastic control box mounted on top of the burner it will use two 6202 2ZZ bearings or other double shielded equivalent. Changing them will require a total strip down and the usual problem with newbies is damaging the fan assembly trying to get it off the shaft end. Also if you haven't stripped a motor before its wise to scratch the end caps/stator with a couple of lines so you can match up the position on reassembly. Oh and just for good measure you may be lucky with a set of assembly screws that use hex nuts but just as likely are peculiar flat bladed ends on the threaded rods:-(

6202 bearings are common on other makes of burner but one or two do use other sizes.

(Oil pumps also make whining noises sometimes)
