Oak parquet flooring

Just purchased new house and the oak parquet flooring needs re-finishing. Previous owner had been using the room as a storage area for all his building equipment so consequently partially scratched the blocks. Is the best method and quickest to individually remove the blocks and sand before re- laying or to get a sander from one of these hire centres and do the floor in situ. By the way I'm contemplating re-laying the floor in another room of the house. Any help or experience would be appreciated.

A son's floor was damaged when the house was flooded. The insurance provided specialists who came - after the floor was absolutely dried out of course, sanded, levelled and finished the floor in situ. It's far more beautiful than it was before, in fact it was so bad before that they had carpet on it.

They were paid for new carpet too ... but it was a very traumatic experience.
