Now what have I done?

Firefox reported Flash player and Adobe reader vulnerable so without much thought I clicked the button.

Adobe download manager (I think) reported a problem and sent off a report to M Soft.

Meanwhile advice elsewhere was to remove the programs prior to a re-load which I duly did.

Now I cannot persuade Adobe Reader to load successfully. Flash player has re-installed although I was perturbed by sites offering Reader which turned out to be Flash!

Last time this happened someone recommended Malwarebytes and the free version plus clearing out the Firefox addons seemed to cure the issue. I now can't get Malwarebytes to load either!

A bit late but when programs start complaining about other programs that are pretty well known, its time to stop, do nothing and think it through a bit. If you are going to uninstall anything do it one at a time via their uninstallers or via revo uninstaller. Then before running the program that reported problems load in Superantispyware or malwarebytes and look at the report. another program that can look at what is going on is hijack this from trend. Beware here though as its not protected against idiots. If everything says its fine, I'd uninstall Firefox and flash and check things still work after each. Then you can do an anti virus scan again, as some malware has a nasty habit of reinstalling itself when programs are removed. Assuming all is well and you removed all the bits from your user folder as well, you can start the re install one at a time. Most problem occur due to poor uninstalls, leaving registry entries behind or some programs needing asystem restart to remove bits but the user forgets this and removes something else cocking it all up. Malwarebytes itself will not run.

I failed to re-start the m/c after removing Flash and Reader but otherwise tried to be careful.

I decided investing in Reimage (scan and repair) would save on stress. Nothing found.

Along the way, Googleing *the app failed to initialise properly (0xc000001d)* throws up a suggestion that my AMD Sempron chip may not handle some software.

I have reverted to Adobe 8.1.3 which seems OK.
