No sound from freeview box.

Today my freeview box started playing up. I receive the picture but no sound. The setup is basically set top aerial to freeview. Freeview connected to tv via scart. I have checked the sound from normal tv and it's fine but no sound on freeview channels.

I have tried switching the freeview box off and then back on again but with no success. Anyone have any diagnostics I can run to help get some sound back.

Any comments greatly appreciated.

check to make sure scart is not out on one side. this happened to me due to the weight of the scart cables and it moving.

You have undertaken the "wiggle scart plug, and ensure it's pushed firmly in" test?

Just write to your MP and insist that Freeview is a heap of dog's doo-daas and that the analogue turn-off is prosponed indefinitely. Or at least until HMGov gives each household three new STBs and the operators of digi-TV enough bandwidth to encode channels at something above the quality level of US television.

I don't see why the Government should give everybody a means of viewing TV - it isn't a free public service. BBC programmes are financed from a licence fee (which also covers all broadcast reception in the UK), and independent programmes are financed by commercial advertising.

You don't HAVE to have TV unless you're prepared to pay for it. It's a consumer market - take it or leave it.

So many people nowadays still seem to think that post, telephone, gas, electricity, shopping malls, radio & TV "services" are publicly owned and answerable to the general public.

Think "Thatcher".

Is the signal strength ok? Does teh same problem occur at night when the signal strength is generally better?

But the government control channel allocation, and so the obsolescence of analogue equipment is in their hands.

Concur with that. Scart plugs and especially sockets are the spawn of the devil. The person or persons who designed a non latching plug/socket arrangement like that need to have it inserted sideways !!
