New oven - faulty switch - they're replacing the oven !!!!

We treated ourselves to a new oven for Xmas. Twin gas oven, plus electric grill in top. Was over =A3500, and built in Britain.

Delivered, and fitted OK. Just over a month ago, we had problems setting the timer, and noticed that if you turned the top oven on full, the light went out. A phone call to the retailer got an engineer visit. He changed the control panel, and fitted a new light switch. Off he went. Next day, we went to use the grill, but the knob wouldn't turn. A further call to the manufacturer, and a week later an engineer came. He spotted the switch for the light for the oven was incorrect - it only turned one way (probably meant for the other side). A few phone calls between engineer and spares department it turned out they don't carry the switch on board.

Another engineer visit booked, and the day before we receive the part in the post ready (can't fault the customer service). It's quite heavy, so I guess it's the complete gas regulator.

Engineer comes. Sure enough, it was the gas regulator - without the light switch.

By now, we are a bit cheesed off. Engineer calls office who call back in 5 minutes, and tell us they'll swap the oven for a new one.

All for a =A31 switch.

Can't fault the CS, but feel so sorry for the company - coz they won't be around long if they're replacing units like that .....

Snip other visits

I wonder what the payment arrangement is with the engineers. If the retail price was £500 ish then the maker will be getting less than that. With 3 visits so far any profit left is probably marginal and maybe they just want to fix the problem once and for all and keep you as a reasonably satisfied customer rather than let the issue drag on and on. Behind the scenes I suspect there be some discussion on how the engineers handled the issue particularly the first one who did not appear to achieve a correct diagnosis /repair. May not be the fault of the engineer but a training /having the right manual issue.
