"New house" - new opportunities :)

Okay, I have just moved. House was built in 1998. Other than cleaning and decorating, there are a few bits I just don't know what there are, or I don't know how to use them.

A burglar alarm - never had one, never used one. How do I use this one?

  1. Unsafe unidentified gas fire - flames seem to come forward - I think owing to incorrect "coal" installation. Identify and help please.

  1. Garden water feature control - how would this be typically used? What is it? Might I be able to find an internal wire for this? Advice please.

  2. UFO or 12 V light?

  1. Whirlpool cooker hood - identify to help me locate right part(s) for efficient working (don't think filter ever been changed).

  2. Whirlpool ADG 734 dishwasher. never used a dishwasher. Don't know how to. Need manual. Advice appreciated.

  1. Double oven with grill - another Whirlpool - what is it - how do I get it to work for me? No user manual :(

Thanks for looking

Eat, put dishes in, switch on, retire to bed lulled to sleep by gentle sounds of breaking glassware and crockery. Bliss.

Good question. It all depends what's controlling that keypad. You'll probably find a box somewhere, a white metal one with no labels on it, that's the centre of the alarm system. Depending what model that is depends what instructions you want, although most of the basic functions are pretty similar. Try looking on

Should be a switch somewhere inside for that. Could have been disconnected at some point though.

Crappy light, I probably wouldn't bother with the effort required to make it (dimly) illuminate.

Two screws underneath, turn them a quarter turn and the bottom shouold pull out then the whole thing drops out.

Nope, stumped on that one.

"Don't ask me,, I only fit 'em guv!" Seriously though, there should be a model number somewhere round the door or somewhere at the front.

I might be able to help with a user manual for the alarm system, but I need to know which model of end station it is.

Although, saying that, most C&K stuff uses the same programming on all its panels.

Can you supply an e-mail address, something like me-at-thisdomain.com, and I'll send a .pdf format user manual for the "Securit 800 L" model panel to you. It should give you all the info' you'll need.

Re: 1 and 2, Instructions for different settings are on the alarm panel flap, all there is to it really. Does the gas fire have a sheet of glass in front of the coals - it should have, I can't tell from the photo. The coals don't quite 'look' right, not incorrectly installed just the wrong ones, I could be wrong.

Not neccesarily, some don't.

Re the gas fire, perhaps some of the gas burner bars are either incorrectly fitted or buggered....I don't really think these need instructions as the avearge user cannot adjust anything?

The outside switch is a basic water resistant 3 way switch. It should have an internal fuse inside the box..perhaps that has blown? It will also need to draw power...maybe plugged in somewhere inside or directly spurred into a circuit or off the main fuse board. Hopefully it will have an RCD inside the house too.

Cooker hood..a generic carbon filter should fit...one of those you just cut down to size.

dim light probably. If you find a 12v wall wart there are 2 possible polarities: use the wrong one and the light may die. As said, probably doesnt give much light.

Suggest washing the filter in the dishwasher. At your risk, the filter could come apart, but it usually works well. Do you know if the hood vents inside or outside?

Program number 3 is a good general purpose setting for most things. It looks like a 65C general purpose wash. Dont put wood in it, wood doesnt last well when dishwashed. Plastics must be kept well away from the heating element at the bottom. There will be a little flap for the

2in1 or 3in1 dishwash tablet. You dont need to use rinse aid.

Dishwashers use salt: only use dishwasher grade salt. It goes in somewhere in the base of the machine usually, a big screw cap or flap. The salt is used to soften the water, no salt will result in scaley deposits.

Fill with dishes, select program, switch on. Wonderful inventions.

Really pees me off when simple things are complicated to use.

Hi again Noz. Sorry, but I can't seem to get a mail attachment to go through to you. I've put a link on this web site for you to collect the user manual from:
