New Build wooden floor

A friend of mine is having a new extension done and is considering what flooring to put down. One option is to put a polished wooden floor down. He had been advised by a friend that this could be put directly onto the joists rather than over the chipboard flooring.

I didn't think this would be advisable due to issues with hiding the nailing etc. But I would be interested to see what the group thinks.

Thanks Tim

Put a thin finish plank over joists, It depends on joist spacing and floor thickness, I would not think the prefinished is thick enough, Im sure the manufacturer will say its to thin. Years ago solid natural plank was very thick, today its as cheap as they can get away with. Dont guess.

It's a traditional way of going about things. Hardwood floors are usually secret nailed at 45 degrees through the tongue of the boards, so the nails are hidden inside the t&g joint. Or you can (more laboriously) screw and plug.
