new batteries for rechargeable shaver?

I'm only getting a few charges from my Norelco (Phillips) shaver. Opened it up and it has 2 AA Nickel Cadmium batteries. Can I replace these with NiMH of do they have to be Ni Cadmium? If NiCadmium, does anyone know of a good supplier? Thank you

NiCds are much better for that kind of thing so do not use NiMH. You can interesting shaped ones from all of Rapid Electronics, Farnell, RS.

nafuk submitted this idea :

Generally, if they are a standard battery shape, yes - though NiMH can be a little more sensitive to the type of charger used by the shaver.

Lots of sources, including high street shops though you may need standard batteries, but fitted with terminal tags on them. An internet search will find more specialised suppliers for this type of cell.

I have just done this with my shaver, got a couple of NiCd from Wilkinson because I could not be arsed to search around.

Easiest is probably Maplin. They should have tagged (to make soldering safer) AA Ni-Cads in stock at their stores.

Don;t use NiMh..they need a slightly different charger..of course if yours is a slow charger, They will probably be OK.

Agreed, but anyone who has to ask where to buy such things is unlikely to be proficient at soldering.

Possibly true.

Don't buy anything from Maplins. My broadband started to go slow and my ISP said I needed a new filter. Maplins said I needed new cable. I bought new cable but the broadband speeded up again - must have been BT. So I took the cable back. But because it had been machine packed there is no way I would return it "in the same condition". The cable WAS "in the same condition". But the idiots said the packing had to be the same -- impossible!

If they want to get things back "correctly" they should use packing it is possible to pack.

Every other company I've taken anything back to, in living memory has accepted it back with full refund.

Except Maplins.

Don't even think of shopping with them.

Like all spam I tend to do the opposite of what it says.
