Mysterious Gravity crashing problem

I'm using Gravity with Eternal September and something strange has happened today.

I tried to catch up with this group and Gravity kept crashing.

Out of curiosity, I tried a couple of other groups - no problem.

I then came back to this group and selected a thread at random - no problem!

But, if I tried to read the FIRST unread thread - the one with the tantalising title:

8kw heat conversion to centigrade

Gravity immediately crashed!

On further investigation, by expanding the thread I can read all the posts except the first one. Any attempt to read that and Gravity crashes!

Anybody else having this trouble?

And has anybody got any idea what might be in that post to cause the problem?

That post had an empty body IIRC. Could be crashing a dodgy news client?

No, but with Thunderbird the message body is blank.

Wasn't empty here, had the same text as the Subject: Jusr checked the actual message file on my server, yep body text same as Subject:.

Over here, I received two posts in quick succession: the one timed at

15.49 had an empty body; the one time stamped 15.50 had the single line as per subject header. Neither affected my newsreader (Agent) in any way but I did think they were rather odd. Plusnet strips any content out that isn't plain text but I wondered if they carried any sort of payload to other destinations.

Using Gravity & Plusnet's usenet server[1], I had exactly the same result with that post.

[1] Lord knows who actually provides Plusnet's usenet servers.

I gave up on that version because it kept on crashing. Dropped back to this one and not had a problem.

I don't think the current/new version copes well with a large newsgroup.

Are you sure? It was posted (or at least appeared) twice. Once without any text in the body and once with the subject line as the body text.

Yep, reading via eternal sept, I got two - one empty body, one with the same content as the subject line.

Empty one could have tickled a bug, or possibly had some binary payload within it (I'm using a somewhat ancient strn news reader, and can't be bothered to poke with raw nntp just now :-))

Ah, I only saw the 07:50 one. Now if people don't clearly explain what they are talking about... Don't know if news.individual.net dropped the empty one or my Leafnode.
