my first house! rules and regulations?

I'd agree they tend not to get into the reasons why cases wont win, as they want the work, and leave it to the client to fill in the gaps with their imagination and assumptions. But when they do they will say something somewhere along the line to cover their ass, its more that people dont listen and use enough caution I think. Think youre right on the money with 'Probe them about every detail.'

No. Using a FENSA-registered installer is an alternative to submitting a Building Notice to the local Council's Building Control for _replacement_ windows. If new windows are being installed as part of other Building Work, then they are inspected by the Building Control Surveyor as part of those works.

Oh, please don't :-( We've got enough to do checking that your windows have 'K-glass' fitted, the sockets are at the right height, and that there are the minimum number of compact fluorescent light fittings to worry about trivial health and safety matters. We just tell people that they don't need to notify us if the work is being done by a CORGI-bod, and that if it's not, it should be. It certainly isn't a requirement of the Building Regulations.

The message from Hugo Nebula contains these words:

My sockets are at the right height for what I want to do with them. Some are at ground level, for things like floor-lamps. Others are at hip height and the conservatory even has two at ceiling height for the insect killer and for Christmas lights.

I'm buggered if someone who doesn't know my intentions is going to tell me where to put sockets.

Then again, the light switch is very low down so wheelchair users can use it - they'll all be down there eventually as I redecorate.
