Mounting my boiler in the loft

I have just had a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 40CDI delivered.

The installation manual states it should be mounted on a non-flammable surface.

I don't however, have a wall in the loft and I will have to build some sort of insulated cupboard to mount it in. Clearly the back of the cupboard to which the boiler is mounted has to be made out of some non-flammable substance, but what should it be?

Don't you have an outside wall - end gable, or whatever? If not, how's the flue going to get to the outside world?

Bare in mind that gable-end walls are not necessarily very strong, as they support nothing and have no weight on them. Often they aren't even tied to the roof structure. Mounting a heavy boiler near the top of a gable end is probably not a smart move. I believe you can get floor standing frames to mount wall mounting boilers on, which might be worth investigating.

The flue's going through the roof. The roof slopes on all 4 sides.

Guessing here, but some roof types are not gabled and require no wall at all, particular 1930s to 1970s properties. The flue can go up through the tiles.

I would guess that two layers of 12.5mm plasterboard on a stud partition would satisfy the requirement, but check with CORGI for the definitive answer. Alternatively, lightweight air concrete blocks.

Masterboard is one product. Knauf make a range of fire-resistant boards.

These things are not always easy to find at a normal builder's merchant. When I needed some, I found it at CCF, who specialise in this area as well as office partition materials etc. There are quite a lot of branches around.
