Mother of all bookcase projects

A tale of some of my recent fumblings in the workshop...

Don't think it would look as impressive if it mainly consisted of The Orange Wall, which is the only way I could fill that.

I know what you mean about the bugs, I managed to keep them off my primer, then the next night left the garage lights on by accident and came back to find half a dozen moths on the undercoat.

That's some project !

Glad to see you feathered the flutes. I hate to see them stopped dead. Touch of the craftsman there i.m.h.o.

And was your significant other happy with it ?

Git! Git git git.

Gitty, gitty, gitetty git.

Not that I'm jealous of all that talent or anything. It's just that my woodwork is entirely functional and I can't do decorative for toffee!

(Ok, 10/10 :-) )

Very nice, I am /so/ not going to post photos of my bathroom boxing-in for comparison.

think the "thicker curtains project" needs moving up a bit :>)

Nice work on the cabinet John

Not sure I will get much chance to fill it - I married a squirrel ;-)

(the similar height, but only half the width bookcase that was there has been moved to another room - I am not expecting any difficulty getting that filled either!)

Inside the workshop does not seem too bad - partly because I normally leave the ceiling mounted air filter running - tends to keep the smaller things out of circulation.

It would have been harder to do anything else in all honesty. the fluting cutter is like a barrel with three semicircular teeth on it at top middle and bottom. So any stopped cut will naturally have a radius to it.

Yes fortunately...

Na - that would make it even less likely I would notice the time and decide to go to bed ;-)

Thankyou kind sir.

Very impressive!

My version of a bookcase was much less impressive. I bought my other half a Kindle.

Very similar in size to the bookcase we have. 6 module construction again. Ours is in solid Ash. Didn't make it only designed it, a local carpenter did the construction.

I don't think I want to price building that in hardwood... it was bad enough in ply/mdf/pine!

I looked at the larger version of some of your sketchup diagrams, and was surprised to see tenths of mm on most of the dimensions, assuming you didn't convert from imperial at some stage, why not design for nice round measurements?

Can anyone here cut timber to 0.1mm? :)

Bugger it. I'd rather throw the books away than build them a case. Getting a bit minimalist in my old age. Alas, her indoors seems to be heading in the other direction

I had a bit of a 'distress build' when I was given a complete run of Analog magazine from 1943 to the present. I was able to make the shelves just the right size (had to, to fit it all in)! But it's quite big (nothing fancy though).
