Monobloc Tap

Hi I have purchased a Monobloc Basin Tap. I wanted to fit this into a two hole basin. The diameter of the holes in the two hole basin are approx

34mm. I tried to fit the tap but it does not fit by about a couple of mm (approx 2-3mm). I was wondering if there is anything I could do to make it fit as its only a couple of mm out.

Thanks

You don't say whether the holes are too small or too big. Makes quite a difference.

What are you going to do with the other hole? Isn't it going to look a bit odd?? Why not take it back and get a double mixer tap, or of course a single hole basin. Otherwise grind it out with some sort of evil dremel type tool for a few hours.

Have you tried a big hammer?

The hole is too small by a couple of mm. I cant find any two hole basin mixer that would fit my basin and I Don't want to change the basin at the moment.

Thanks

A tugsten-carbide grit edged hole saw should do the job but may be hard work (porcelain is *hard*). I think Toolstation do them.

I'd go the Dremel route with a variety of attachments to try.

You could get a 3 hole mixer like ebay item 140134660289 which work with any hole spacing

It's nearly always easier to drill a new hole than enlarge an existing, and lots of basins have the third hole preformed underneath ready to punch out. Alternatively, drill the centre hole anyway, fit the monobloc in there and fit the others with tap hole stoppers.

This is something I thoought about doing, as SWMBO decided she liked the idea of a monoblock after all sometime after we had bought the two hole basin. In the end we decided to stick with the two hole and have seperate taps. Others have given various answers to your question, but can I ask what you intend to do about the other hole?

Put cap on it

I have always questioned the use of mono taps on basins. Every one I've tried looks great until I wash my face then the tap and I collide. This generally happens when my eyes are closed to keep the soap out of them and it hurts. The tap also gets in the way when scooping the water up onto my face with my hands. They're rapidly becoming one of my pet hates.

Put one in a two hole basin and cap the other hole off with a white plug. The tap is then to one side and doesn't get in the way when throwing water up to your face. Easy and effective - perfect in fact, far more practical than the centre mounted tap.

Except that a monobloc tap won't fit in a hole intended for a single tap . . remember?

Most will fit.

Well the one owned by the OP clearly won't - 'cos the purpose of this thread was to ask how to enlarge the hole in the basin!

Blocking the other hole should be easy enough a blank plate from a PM of a specialist kitchen shop.

The standard hole for a monobloc is 35mm diameter so I'm really surprised that you can't make it fit. Any way its so close filing a couple of notches where you to should do the trick.
