Moderated Group?

That argument must have more leaks than pushfit plumbing.

Despite his faults I've always enjoyed his ability to just let the views of others be a source of reinvention and revitalisation. It's a bit like Monsters, Inc. where they need the fear of others to keep them going.

"His pals in here"?

It has been mentioned from time to time. Never seems worth it really.

Sometimes I may "mark a thread as read" or assign it a colour code once it ceases to be of interest, but usually stop short of actually blocking individual posters (other than the kylie and pratsnip type of trolls).

Even if you can anticipate that 99% of what drivel posts is a waste of space, there are times where genuinely useful information does come out of the detailed rebuttals of his nonsense.

If you start censoring / moderating then there is the temptation to block all "off topic" conversation. One of the great strengths of this group IMHO is that a small amount of off topic stuff is tolerated, and some very interesting discussions have come about as a result. This is also a handy place to ask specialist questions when all you need is a practical answer, and not an experience like trying to drink from a burst water main! If there is a poster who bothers you that much, you can excise them from your reading experience without needing to impose that view on anyone else.

So far at least the group seems quite healthy, with the vast majority of threads relatively unaffected. He does alas seem to be stepping up his attempts to be objectionable and is also spreading the net wider looking for targets, but I suspect has a way to go yet before turning this group into a baron wasteland!

(You never know, one day he may actually understand that posting a reply with "snip drivel" in it serves absolutely no purpose at all since the original message still remains readable to everyone on the news servers, and in the google archive)

You, along with Plowman, Lord hall/Matt, Tomlinson etc are a total waste of space. Probably because you have fat wife.

"My Groups" in this context is nothing to do with ownership of the group, but don't let hard facts get in the way of your argument.

He also goes by another few aliases. "timegoesby" for one.

As the psychiatrist in Fawlty Towers said "there is enough material there for a whole conference"

Ooh, I don't know - I think this group is frequency modulated: the posting rate varies a lot with time, it still works when the signal-to-noise ratio is low and it consumes a considerable bandwidth...

Lord Hall, stop telling porkies. Niow we all know you tell many porkies.

You are a solid case Matt, er Lord Hall. ..and you have a fat wife.

Suzanne,.

I do actually have to snip drivel a hell of lot. Otherwise the bandwidth would be enormous.

I would welcome one as it would eliminate the resident trolls and idiots. IFAIAC, IMM stays at all times, despite the crying of the trolls, as he is one of the few genuinly decent professional contributors. When I Google on heating, I specifically go for his posts. I wish he would keep the same name.
