Mixertap problem

A friend has a problem with a mixertap that appears to be stuck half and half so that when either tap is run half the water comes out the tap and half comes out the shower hose. Moving the valve at the base of the hose has no effect.

Is there a way of clearing the problem easily?

If you unscrew the shower hose, you'll find that you can get a spanner on the piece that's left. Unscrew this - and there's one or two rubber 'o'-rings on there - they need replacing.

Best to take the bit with the 'o'-rings on to a proper plumbers' merchant and they will find you the right size part - there's a whole range of different sizes to choose from !

be non-return valves) - but you should be able to unscrew the tap unions from the top end of each pipe... you'll need a basin wrench - watch your knuckles!

Interesting soldering, though. Might want to wash off the excess flux from the copper pipework before putting it all back together....

It's a simple enough job - but if you don't feel confident or don;t have the necessary tools.....

Good luck Adrian

They will be non-return valves - a requirement where the shower hose can be left in the bathwater - to prevent siphoning back in the event of loss of water pressure (how often did this happen?)
