They used to use the Navigon software and Navteq mapping. Then again, the last MIO I bought about five years ago had been badge engineered by Medion, who sell through Lidl or Aldi. It still works, although there is a problem with the non-standard data connector they used at that time.

I am a happy user of the Navigon sofwtare on a Windows phone, FWIW.

If you want support from your friends, get a Tomtom.

I have one and am very pleased with it. Cost me around £60 & must have saved me more than that in fuel.

I bought one around 2006/7 because it was as good as a Garmin or TomTom but about half the price. Belgian company, I think. It was very good. Unfortunately they changed map providers and wouldn't provide new software and map updates for the older systems (mine IIRC was a Mio 510E).

I now have a TomTom which is good, but doesn't have all the features of the Mio (such as configuring the weight of your vehicle so that you won't be taken on a route which is unsuitable - useful if you use the same satnav in a car and a 3.5 tonne camper). However I didn't buy a new Mio because they had left me in the lurch once already.

So potentially a good company ( but that was a while back) but check that they have stayed with the same map provider for a while.

Cheers
