Miele Cat and Dog query

Must be the wrong sort of hair - I never had that problem... Do you have animals, and if so, what sheds the most hair in your house? I can see cat hair, being finer, doing odd things.

Cheers

Needed a new vacuum 3 years ago as new house had looking to clean floorboards, carpets and tiles and bought one of these after it was rated top in a Which survey - been very pleased with it.

I am aware of quite a few Dyson that are well over 10 years old and still going strong, plus at the time they supported British manufacturing rather than lining the pockets of some fat german in a Mercedes.

If you want to remain in the early part of the 20th century with replaceable bags costing an arm and a leg then that's your choice (You can now get a Dyson for *much* less than any Miele) but do please stop trying to perpetuate the idea that Miele are absolutely brilliant and will last for 1000 years and that Dyson are crap, break down more than a Trabant and even with satnav couldn't find their way to Poland for a spot of spring cleaning on a sunday afternoon.

Only a complete idiot ( the country is full of them) would throw out a Dyson just because they have been trying to suck up building rubble/dog turds/wet plaster 24/7. A Miele or a bleeding Numatic would keel over just the same.

Anyway with a posh name like yours shouldn't you have a housekeeper that would do your cleaning for you?

Bags do both, so are a double loss. Cyclones have been marketed on the basis of the falloff of suction as he bag steadily bungs up, but a new bag of any kind also takes a fair bit off the suction. Get yourself abag hoover and press on the bag while its running, and thats how much force by which the bag is reducing the suction pressure.

I am aware of quite a few that are not still going strong - just about eveybody I know with one has not had it make it past the 5 year mark - plus - they are bloody noisy things.

Read into it what you want eh? You seem to be the sort of person who doesn't like to hear another side of a story anyway! I did not say that Dyson were *crap* (although I personally think they are) - but they are a case of they sold on the fact you could see all your shit off the floor going round in pretty circles so they sold on novelty. OK they might be quite clever - but they are expensive - and were never designed to last the long haul (and almost certainly won't now they are made in China or wherever it is). The Miele kit is - as I'm sure you'll read whenever someone on this group asks about a good make to buy when they want to replace their Washing Machine/Dishwasher/Tumble Dryer etc etc - in fact the hoovers state in the instructions they have been designed to last 15 years or more.

Highly possibly - but - I don't have to put bits of my "hoover" thru the wash or go out and buy filters or undergo the delight of trying to tip all the shit out into the bin in a slight breeze and coming in covered in it after doing any of those tasks (ok except the dog turds which is just a grim image) - I just change the bag - and yes I have hoovered up rubble, brick dust, plaster (dry, damp and wet), sawdust, metal filings, stripped paint etc and not had an issue - not sure what the Dyson would do with it - probably convert it and all the shit going round at 100mph into a gloopy lump. Actually - Numatics don't die in that situation - the plasterer and sparky/plumber we had recently both had one - and both had no idea how long they'd had it but never had any problems....the Numatics with the bags I might add.....

No - I should be using *my* Miele to vacum a Matt ;-)

Cheers Dan.

Numatic are made in the UK!

I actually used a Dyson upright today for the first time ever. Having been in the commercial cleaning machine business for 30 years it was an interesting experience.

Black carpet covered in sawdust. Performance was absolute rubbish, had to go over the same area two or three times to clean it, edge cleaning ability poor, left segregated brush marks where it missed the dirt. Used the extension hose for crevices - insufficient airflow, almost useless.

A Sebo would run bloody rings round it.

Dyson are known as Die Soon in the trade. You would be hard pressed to kill a Numatic if you tried. The UK's largest cleaning contractors use and abuse them on a daily basis.

All the main manufacturers have tried to bring out a machine to beat the Henry - Karcher, Nilfisk, Electolux, Victor, Taski - they all failed miserably.

Hmmm - my partner saw your reply before I did and asked how I was going to respond. :-) Partner has lusciously thick (both individual strands and the whole barnet) and long hair - neither cats nor dogs ever come into the house. Maybe a few spiders round the back of the freezer....

What do you think of the "boxy" air head v. the "Airo" v. the 24v electric one, if you've experience of them?

Never rated any air driven power heads. The 24v one I reckon is a good bit of kit.

Gives the brushing function of an upright with the versatility of a tub vac.

The Dyson I have is now over 5 years old and works ok. However what you save on bags you spend on filters, they are expensive and require frequent replacement. Also they clog very quickly if vacuuming up fine dust, makes them pretty useless for cleaning up while decorating.

Oops - sorry about that... No offence intended. Got it into my head animals were involved somewhere, I must have mixed context with what a different poster said.
