Margaret Thatcher RIP;!...

What you choose to believe has no effect on the truth.

I have seen emails from the personnel department telling members of a (now defunct) PCT reminding staff how many sick days they have left.

Don't be so stupid, would you really stand there in a crowd of people you work with and do anything other than put your hand up with the rest, especially when you know you will have your house windows smashed and scab painted all over your house if you don't?

You just don't have a clue what went on in industry.

Was it Wilson that brought in the clean air act? That closed hundreds of mines and save thousands of lives.

Maggie did what anyone would have done and made sure the miners could never turn off the power again. The only real mistake she made was to not build more nuclear.

If Scargill had not tried to overthrow the government we wouldn't have needed to diversify away from coal and more mines would have stayed open for longer. He signed the mine death warrant not Maggie.

Taking 13 years to squander the economy they inherited was quite parsimonious by Labour standards. Normally they screw the pooch in just a single term.

Good to see you telling lies about the previous government BTW, it just confirms the credentials of the lefties as those, like Blair and Campbell who will tell any glib lie to further their agenda.

Very odd. NHS contracts don't specify a set number of sick days!

They have two ways of managing sickness:

1) Long term sick pay pays full pay for 6 months, reduces to 1/2 pay for 6 months and then usually leads to termination of employment. 2) Employees having more that 2 periods of sickness in 12 months are called in to see the Occupational Health Department to discuss health issues and what can be done to help improve the situation. This applies to all. For instance my wife had a fortnight off when a chest infection exacerbated her asthma; one day off at the end of suffering a stomach bug during her days off; then had time off recovering from an operation

- automatically generating the call in.

She certainly wasn't taking sickies - in fact she has holidays left over that she has now lost because she can't carry them over into the next year!

Make your mind up. Is it a question of voting with your mates - or being intimidated by a few militants? But perhaps you don't know the difference.

You know this, do you?

Oh but I do, from first hand. Not the third hand stuff you believe.

hands and knees.

What the country needed at the time was it's lost trade. No one was willing to trust the British workforce anymore and we were in deep sh*te. The spoils we took from other countries was now spent. There was nothing left to give to those the went on strike; asking for more.

We needed someone with strength of authority and, the conviction to impress upon other states that Britain will be reliable in business. And this she did! She did not get the 'title' of Iron Lady from any Brit!

Now we need another with as much balls to tell the banks they are not going to get any interest when 'we' borrow OUR money. Banks DO NOT make money; it IS NOT theirs! Our Gov' borrows (the peoples) money and is forced to pay a penalty of interest upon it. Disgusting!

Think about it. It began when someone and, his employees, with guns and a small strong hold, looked after the wealth of others for a fee. Now 'they' command wars and move OUR money in such ways that it causes strife. Just business, aye?

I too was pressured to join a union on more than one occasion in the early 70's. I was asked by the 'collector' and, I said, I will think about it. He said if I do not join I will not be able to work there. BTW, the 'collector' as it turned out, was a very nice guy. But the pressure comes from above him. Before the day was out I was surrounded by 4-5 lads who told me I 'will' join.

You don't have a clue what happens in the real world.

Well unlike you my parents actually worked in industry and know exactly what used to happen. I have seen houses with broken windows and scab written on them near to the school I used to go to. It used to happen whatever you decide to believe.

Oh and you can even find reports of stuff like that in the press, but that's all lies and propaganda according to people like you.

Now it's the Russians, the French etc that can turn the power off. Is this an improvement?

One of the many mistakes.

It takes two sides to fight a war.

Oh really? I think you'll find it only takes one.

True, but try telling the miners and left wing that. Closing the industry down was a combined effort, and if *either* of them had been willing to compromise even slightly, we'd still be digging large amounts of coal up today.

If you check the facts, more pits were closed under Harold Wilson (90) and Jim Callaghan (63) than under Maggie's leadership (22).

Coal production was dropping at the same percentage per year (Ignoring strikes) from the 1950s until well after Maggie resigned.

Explain how one side can fight a war on their own?

Agreed.

IIRC most of the earlier pit closures were because the mines were exhausted.

IIRC The biggest drop in coal production was during Maggies' 'reign'. ICBW, of course.

Agree - I did said I was ambivalent about her.

No. Unless capitulation is considered an option, which it isn't in my book.

It can take 2 sides to start a war and it can also take only 1.
