Making mains crimp connections

Ok, got me some crimps and a proper ratchet crimp tool, for mains wiring what's the best way to actually make up the joint safely?

I was thinking, crimp the joint, heat shrink sleeving over the top of each separate joint in each cable, then more heat shrink, or even insulation tape wrapped over the whole lot.

It does with heatshrink over it. ;-)

I'd use heatshrink, Insulting tape doesn't last.

If you get the insulated crimps then you can do without the first bits of heatshrink for the individual wires.

That's true, as that's what I have. Well seems I just need to get some bigger heatshrink for the outer layer and I'm away.

You can make life a little easier if you cut each wire in the cable to a different length, so that when the crimps are in place they fall in sequence rather than all ending up side by side. This will let you get away with smaller overall heat shrink and give a less "lumpy" final result.

Ahh, good idea.
