Light Switches and Sockets

Is there a guide available for positioning of Sockets and Lights Switches in a new house. It has to take care of a wheelchair user too. I would like to position the sockets 450mm from FFL but need guidance on how far they must be set in from the adjacent walls. I am planning at least 4 twin sockets per bedroom.

The official guidance is in building regulations Part M.

-> Building Regulations -> The building Act 1984(...) ->

Approved Documents -> Approved Document M -> Section 8 *Accessible Switches and Socket Outlets in the Dwelling".

It says little more than to keep all switches and sockets between 450mm and

1200mm of the floor. You'll need to use common sense in keeping them away from other obstructions, such as internal corners, that may prevent a wheelchair user accessing them.

Also, sockets that high present more of a trip hazard from the trailing flex, so bear that in mind when positioning them.

sockets and light switches have to be between 450mm and 1200 mm from the floor. Disabled access regs. There is no rule about where laterally in the wall they should go. It us unclear as to which part of the switch or socket has to fall within this height band either.
