One of the jigsaws I have had the misfortune to own (the first, IIRC), had a bent metal soleplate. Although attached by a mechanism that could have allowed the soleplate to rotate (and allow cutting at different angles), that was for the next model up. That mechanism was held in position by a single screw - and the hole for that was not in the right place - so it started life as an approx. 85/95 degree machine and was not adjustable.
Another - well the soleplate was out of alignment. After I dropped the whole thing onto a concrete floor. But it and the last both failed due to inability to retain blades properly.
So I concur that a cast soleplate is very likely to help - until you drop it. :-)
