Laying reclaimed pamment floor tiles

Does anyone know the best cement mix for laying old pamments onto a level concrete screed floor. The pamments are very old red clay 9 x

9's and about 2 inch deep. Some have suggested using a weak cement mix and others suggest putting lime into the mix. It was even suggested to lay on a bed of sand. Also, should I use the same mix, whatever that is for the grout. Grateful for any views.

Regards, Dick

Where are you laying them? I have tiles bedded in sand to form a path iin the greenhouse but it wouldn't be suitable in the house ...

You'll need a thickish bed of cement to allow for discrepancies in the thickness of the pamments and for tapping them down. I used a stiff 5:1 mix about 5 years ago when pammenting my kitchen floor and it's still there. I used white cement and sand for grouting to emulate old lime mortar. The gaps between the pamments being half inch, any narrower and you could have problems with the pamments slight variations in size.
