I'm wondering about using this stuff for a Hi-Fi stand, since it can be made to custom sizes and is adjustable.
Can anyone suggest London based dealers or any way to get it cheaper or second hand? Any economies by mixing this with scaffolding tube - I think that is also 48.3mm?
I bought some identical product called Tubeclamps from a firm in Bath who shipped it. Shipping wasn't all that expensive IIRC.

used the 48.3mm version to construct some racks for timber in my workshop, where the weight required to be supported is considerable. For a hifi stand I think that you could get away with the 26.9 or
33.7mm sizes unless you really want the chunky look.
For finishing purposes, this stuff will take a good quality spray metal paint. I used Rustoleum, which seems to work better than Hammerite which I've used in the past - better finish. Galvanised metal does need to be degreased with paint thinner first and then primed with the proper primer before using several coats of the finish. Also, there are a wider variety of colours than from Hammerite as far as I could make out.
