Even 100% margin still only gets you to 80A!...

still it was the two red tails I found more entertaining...

Mine are all Black on the fuse side and grey coming from it !! so not much in the way of colour coding to go by there !!!

The message from "Staffbull" contains these words:

That's just the outer sheath, surely?

there is no hint of colour in the centre of the cable but they have not been disconnected so dont know, you could be right

Modern tails are double insulated - grey outer, with a coloured inner sheath.

Because some REC's (or whatever they are called now) won't even fit them - NEDL and YEDL for instance, and those that will fit them make a relatively large charge for doing so.

Double insulated, or is the outer sheath mechanical protection?

The latter - or as Reg. 471-09-04 puts it:

"Cable having a non-metallic sheath or a non-metallic enclosure shall not be described as being of Class 2 construction. However the use of such cable installed in accordance with Chapter 52 shall be deemed to afford satisfactory protection against direct and indirect contact."

I was only teasing:-)

The amateur "electrician" sent by Scottish Power to my office to do some work on the meter also called such cables "double insulated", so the term has some currency.
