Is the Age of the Bath Over?

This is another aspect that's prompting me to keep a bath: the likelihood of some "study" in the near future being published which proves beyond doubt that "soaking in a bath with a glass of wine at least once a week reduces stress to such an extent that persons who thusly partake live on average an extra 5 years." So everyone will be insisting on houses with baths again. I can just see it happening and knowing my luck, days after I dump the bath in a skip.

It was both yesterday for me. A shower to get most of the black grime off (a mixture of soot and grease) and then a soak in the bath to get clean and relax the muscles.

I don't think people realise what a messy job it is

We installed a low level 'easy access' Carronite bath two years ago* with the ageing process in mind and a one metre square walk-in shower that is plenty large enough to accommodate a seat in due course.

*as it is shallower than a standard bath you do need a longish bath for soaking comfortably

Nasty, I'm sure you've been through all the med options so I wont bore you with suggestions. Not producing wax is a funny one and I'm sure it provides a protective coating against all sorts of nasty things and you are missing it :-/

Unfortunately, at least some laundry detergents attack enamel - so possibly not a good idea in steel or iron baths.

And of course a wet shave after the soak in the bath has opened up the pores.

I misread this Thread Topic as: Is this the age of the Bath Oliver? I was going to reply Yes, preferably with both Wensleydale and Farmhouse Cheddar on the plate.

However. The only time our bath has been used in the last 20 years, when we got our shower fitted, is 6 times in the last 18 months, when our baby granddaughter has visited. [with her parents]

Gawd, no.

Butterpuffs, wholewheat digestives, cream crackers and/or water biscuits, with some blue, mebbe some hard goat or just a good goat log. I'm with you on a good strong mousetrap cheddar, though.

Partly a result of the shower not adjusting low enough to direct water onto the body rather than the head/face.

In our previous place there was a fixed shower over the bath, but I added a new set of bath taps that also had a built in shower. Put a bracket for that one at about 4' off the bath level, and the kids much preferred that.

Makes a nice change from the shower now and then.

The rare occasions I have a bath (if I'm feeling a bit under the weather, o r in a hotel room and the TV can be seen from the bathroom !), I really loo k forward to it and enjoy it for a few minutes. Then the hot humid atmosphe re gets to my head and I start to feel a headache coming on so I have to ge t out. Perhaps I would love a hot tub where the body can be warm and the he ad cool in the outside air.

Simon.

A few miniutes, I doubt I've had a bath that took less than 15 mins. Last week I was in the bath for 1 1/2 hours on one occasion. It's just it's nice and peaceful in there no one disturbs me not even the cat. I get to think about things without distractions such as the TV, phone, cat, people, people outside, crappy little bikes with 10cc engines racing up and down.

They're reasonably common on the balconies of ski chalets. The availability of beer is a big plus, though that might not do your headache much good. :-)

Ah but it would put off the headache until I woke up the next morning. Simon.
