Intumescent strips

Been asked to replace the intumescent strips on some fire doors in a building I manage,

The strips are fixed into an approx 8mm wide groove in either the door or the frame.

Two problems. One is how to get the old strips out? They seem to have been glued in and a quick probe with the trusty SAK reveals that they are firmly stuck.

Second problem is sourcing new strips. The usual suspects only seem to have self adhesive strips 4mm thick and there ain't not enough clearance for them.

Anyone got any experience of these?

Old router cutter?

Router out a deeper groove?

Neither of these suggestions work well if the existing strip is in a metal carrier of course.

If it has a metal carrier, you can prise one end out an rip it out with pliers or similar.
