Installing shower backer board

As I progress with my shower room refit I have just realised it was my intention to mount the backing board on the existing plywood partition, I have stripped the old tiles and it is still in good condition.

However I never thought about removing the ply partition and fixing the shower board to the studs. Is there any reason why I should remove the ply V attaching the shower board to the ply.

I used Aqua panel to repair a leaking shower at my daughters previous flat, I seem to remember that the leaflet that came with the board said it was n ot completely waterproof only that unlike PB it did not disintegrate. In th e end as a belt & braces exercise I put a polythene DPM attached to the stu ds behind the panels.

I tanked mine with BAL WP1 over the cement boards I used, before tiling. Probably overkill though.

I have a large roll of unbreathable roofing lining which I'm going to staple down the battens before attaching the cement board. This is to prevent the partition wall ending up at high humidity due to the cement board being moisture permeable. It's a bit like DPM except it is untearable (glass fibre reinforced), and is slightly velvet texture on one side to prevent any condensation beading and dripping off. (Not saying it's better than DPM - just that I have it left over from something else and it looks ideal for the task.)
