Incorrect Wiring - What danger

Yup. However, it slightly worried me using a 13 amp plug fuse with such thin flex. ;-)

Timbo, sometimes you do need three.

Not only that - the degaussing circuitry takes a fair whack of current at switch-on.

Apparently it used to be recommended that tv sets had a 7A plugtop fuse.

Youre talking start up surges there, I was thinking of steady run current. For the ring main its run current that counts, a start up surge wont last long enough to cause a significant temp rise on the wires. Which is why such surges are ignored today. I have still never seen a domestic tv that takes 1kw continuous, from any era. Not even

1920s televisors.

re 1.5mm2 rings:

But that isnt a safety issue, its a matter of convenience. For new installs it matters, but to make an old non compliant install a bit safer its not a problem. I'm not sugegsting anyone do it as its not regs compliant, but safe it is.

Or anything else. In IMM's world MICC doesnt exist, nor does butyl rubber cable. Nor does exterior wiring in Alaska I suppose.

It would be quicker to have a permanent easy way to let people know what dimm is about, like a thread collecting his stupidisms. Post one link and its all over, no need to waste time explaining.

Glad to see you're well ;->

Personally, and you won't change my mind, I prefer "none" and a decent HW storage arrangement instead.

Yes - but the plug fuse has to protect the appliance wiring, and anti-surge ones of these aren't readily available.

I wonder about some Plasma ones- given how hot they get.

Oh another one. The topic was wiring with T&E. Look up the post, it says "This clearly makes it impossible to design a compliant ring in 1.5mm^2 PVC T&E cable." I don't know if you have noticed but we don't live in Alaska with wires outside, the ng says UK in its title. It is also about 9C outside at the mo. And to put you right. A ring is "not" fitted with 1.5mm cable - read above.

I suppose you leave your boiler without attention for 10 years too. Taking advise of some of the people here is very dangerous.

How else are they going to pay the royal family and and support the 9 palaces at our expense...and what about the tax breaks for all those large land owners - we must subsidise the stinking rich too.

Timbo, that is sad, very sad. Do you still use dolly tub and ride to the pub on horse as well?

the 1700s. All they want to do is keep large landowners, who contribute into their koffers, still owning most of the nation and maintaining the artificial land shortage, that drives up house prices. If the Lib-Dems had their act together they would force them into 3rd place, and about time too.

Not only, but we make our own soap from the corpses of our enemies and lye from the smouldering ashes of their dwellings.

No, frightened villagers drop a firkin off now and then.

Riding to the pub on a horse is a good idea. The horse knows the way home. More than can be said for a stupid bicycle. And the horsepats can be saved for a methane plant to power the combis.

Scotland still has the sensible doctrine of desuetude, by which unused laws fall into repeal without having to be repealed by statute. Unfortunately it only applies to Acts of the real Scottish parliament.

Well you usually just give the same answer to everything, so why suddenly the concern about the topic?

And:-

"the minimum cross-sectional area of both phase and neutral conductors is 2.5 mm2 except for two-core mineral insulated cables to BS 6207 for which the minimum is 1.5 mm2."

Plainly you don't understand the idea of learning by debate. Stick to quoting websites.

Crikey. At last a use for John/Adam/IMM/Dr Evil. I knew eventually there would be.
